At Spezi, Optima presented a new Baron. The bike rear section has been re-developed. Another new Baron variety is a folding version, folded within seconds. Working name is Proto, but a new name is expected. Optima is negotiating details with frame builders and once completed, delivery times and prices will be announced. The Proto has apparently passed the prototype stage.

The Proto has been developed as a engineering graduate project by Arend-Jan van Lent, who had a clear target at Optima. Develop a bike that folds easily, is compact once folded and comfortably transported by using its own wheels! Extremely convenient for people short of space or needing a bike in combination with train travel.

Folding takes about 10 seconds. Of course we have the whole folding and unfolding real time non-edited on youtube.

According to the makers, the development of a foldable, faste racing recumbent is initially intended to supply specific demand of people with limited space at home to park their bikes. Especially low-races can be somewhat more space consuming than upright bikes.

And finally there is the Baron Elite. The Baron continues to be one of the best sold bikes of Optima.

A special option is now to have a carbon rear section.
